Gears of War 2 Game Modes Overview

Execution

stats-gt-execution

This game mode is simple, kill or be killed.

The rules are:

-You must finish your opponent with an execution(close range/Explosion)  1 life per round

Exceptions to the rules are shooting someone in the head while they’re down with the pistol or sniper. The pistol is far easier to shoot the head with. In execution the strategy is fairly simple go for the finish, damage them from a far then rush, or just rush. The only point in not rushing downed enemies is to lure opponents to the scene for extra kills. Luring can be very effective, but it’s a risk/reward kind of thing, it can go really well… or really bad.  After being downed twice, your third down is death, this keeps players from doing the two man rush and picking each other up rapidly. It also adds the feeling of weakness. Since most people think that their teammates will revive them, the three your out rule helps remind people they can be finished from a range.

Warzone

Again Kill or be killed…

The rules are:

-You can kill anyone anyhow 1 life per round

However in this mode fighting styles like the Lancaster and the trapper favor here, since both styles favor long range attacks they will down the enemy, and in a result finish them off. In warzone you can shoot them while they’re down and have it actually kill the player. This shines for the teams that do focus firing, since they wont have to get close to finish the job. This mode is for serious players, in my opinion execution breeds rushers, but in warzone if you rush your going to risk it for sure. This game mode is for the skilled in my opinion, it takes off that protective range barrier.

King of The Hill

Capture hold and win.

 The rules are:

-Capture the hill, one player must remain standing in the hill. The controlling team cannot respawn while in control of the hill. Infinite respawns, execution kill rules.

The mode is fun! The controlling team has the bug light, and the enemies just come, a strong team will just swamp the charging team, the trick to defending is to sit 2 in the hill, and have three creating a defensive perimeter to the hill. When you’re the assaulting team don’t rush alone, wait for teammates to spawn or attack with you, if your alone fire from a range to harass the hill.

Fighting in the hill:

-Gnasher shotgun- Blindfire, blindfire, blindfire, blindfire, blindfire, blindfire, blindfire, reload, repeat. Works everytime, there will be so many people fighting you will eventually gib someone.

-Lancer- Rev the chainsaw!

Love it!

Rules are:

-Capture the hill, you do not have to stand in the hill to keep control, after 60 seconds of capture time, it moves.

-Infinite respawns no matter who controls the hill.

-Execution kill rules.

This game mode is just like king of the hill, except living is not as crucial, in this mode you can leave one in the hill and use 4 to create a perimeter.  When the hill hits 5 seconds, dash towards other weapons in order to get a jump on the new hill.

Submission

Capture the flag.. kinda.

The rules are:

-Infinite respawns

-Warzone kill rules

-Down the neutral CPU, pick it up as a meatshield and move to the cap point. You must remain in cap zone for 5 seconds or so.

I don’t care for this game mode really. I love warzone kill rules but when your holding the flag your weak. They nerfed how strong the flag was, it used to protect you more than it does now. Now you take on a ton of damage when using the shield, it really is disappointing. As for winning stay in a group, down the flag from a range, pick it up and move. Your teammates must be willing to die for the flag’s progression. You can smoke the flag carrier and the flag will drop. If the possession of the flag changes the cap point changes.  The lancer has a slight disadvantage in this mode since you can’t melee the neutral flag with the lancer, and chainsawing the neautral flag doesn’t work.  Have fun…

Guardian

FAVORITE!

The rules are:

-Warzone/Execution.

-One leader per team; kill the leader to stop enemy respawns, then finish off enemy.

-Leader is chosen at random at first round. The next round is chosen based on who killed opposite leader, if opposite leader was not kill, it is the person with the highest score, or second highest score if highest score was leader last round.

Now this mode is amazing! It inspires team work and a ton of different styles are brought to the table. I love seeing the different styles used in this game mode since it is the most strategic game mode. I’ve noticed four styles of taking out a leader.

Assassin- Rush through a team dodging players and avoiding groups(even if that means running through them) just to kill the leader. Favored by the New Age Knight style.

All or nothing- This style is basically run as fast as you can to the leader dispatching anyone in their way mostly seen in desperate times or the Postulo Cruor style.

Ninja- Sneaking up as far as possible then coming in like a storm killing any in its way. The ninja waits to strike when it knows victory can be achieved. Favored by the Brick Breaker style.

Space Man-This technique is killing the leader from far away, using weapons like: mortar, hammer, sniper, torque, boltok, frags. This technique is favored by the lancasters.

Wingman

Growing on me

The rules are:

-Execution kill rules.

-5 teams of 2 free for all style

I currently don’t have the data I need for this mode, I’m working on it with ninjaswitch almost every night now. I’ll post a separate guide for this including the following:

-Maps (the five spawns)

-When to gun when to run

-What do I do “x area”?

One thing I can say is that power weapons should be taken out of wingman, it usually ends up at whosever’s team spawns on Boomshot has a huge advantage.
